Our Ethos
Honeypot Bookshop evokes a distinct memory of times gone by; a sanctuary of quiet comfort, where a cosy armchair by the window is surrounded by the scent of rich aged books packed tightly into olden wooden shelves. Whether the rain is pattering on the window on a hazy Autumnal day or the flower box outside the arched door is full of spring blooms, every season is a Honeypot Bookshop season.
Honeypot Bookshop was always going to be more than a bookshop - it is a world devoted to the unsurpassed pleasures of reading, writing and storytelling. We are resolute in our belief of the positive impact that reading has on nurturing wonder and imagination, and part of our ethos is to encourage reading in all ages. We passionately believe in the benefits of reading for pleasure for all ages and especially in reading to children. Why Classics?
As with all great literature, including the very best of children’s picture books, a classic can be read anew more than once in one’s lifetime. Italo Calvino’s republished 1986 essay which can be found here asks the question ‘Why read the Classics?’, and offers some beautiful insights into the enduring reach of classics.
